Atreyu - Storm to pass

I like this video as the majority of the shots are moving

The location in this shot is outside, dusty/rocky, old run down building. The lighting in this shot includes a spotlight from the background illuminating the lead singer and also a huge spotlight from the side casting big shadows of the band.

There is a huge contrast between the two locations used in this music video, this enables the viewer to realise when the narrative is being shown. The lighting is a little warmer in this shot, with yellows, oranges, whites compared to dark black silhouettes and shadows which are present within other clips.

The small amount of special effects in this extreme cole up shot makes it very effective as it is the only piece of special effects in this video, but the lightening bolt also relates to the song title 'storm to pass'.

Wombats - Jump Into The Fog

This high angle shot allows the viewer to see the whole band and location. The dull colours - black and light yellows - allow props and outfits with a little more colour such as the drummer's t-shirt stand out. This was done to really emphasise the band members.

This low angle medium shot brings us closer to the drummer. the symbols are out of focus while he is in full focus, bringing out all features of his features.

I love this shot, as the actor looks as if he is getting on with his job, reading letters etc. it's so random!

In this shot the singer is taking us half of the screen in full focus, but it is also possible to make out the other two band members in the background due to the depth of field in this shot

This shot with the fog is great not only because it relates to the song title, but also the light which is reflecting off the fog creating a blue/white-ish colour which is in contrast to the bold dark black figure of the male in the shot.

In contrast to the shot above, this shot is very dark, a lot more blacks covering the majority of the shot with the red lighting which is illuminating the male's face. All focus to his facial expression.

The low lighting combined with the fog create a great effect at the bottom of this shot. I like the neutral colours in this last shot.

Rizzle Kicks - down with the trumpets

This opening shot uses a titled technique which draws the audiences attention towards the radio/tv.

I like the harsh cropping of this shot with the top part of their hair out of the shot, really making a more claustrophobic feel with all the posters on the wall and big radio filling about a quarter of the screen.

Carrying around this prop throughout the video gives the prop a lot of meaning, they can't be with out.

The pastel colours on the shack brighten up this shot.

I like the way there is a lot of different camera angle's in this video, this shot reminds me of the 'example - kickstarts' music video as the two sides block out the middle moving part.

Two shot's from the same angle but with more people in the shot, all look like normal people.

Same again here, same angle shot. but i like the way more actors are in the shot, dancing to the music.

I like this shot as the singer who is lip syncing is in focus while the other signer out of focus yet we can still make out his figure.

The sharp focus on the money emphasis the narrative and what is happening in this shot. This actor looks like the stereotypical junkie/chav reflecting why he is in demand for money.

I love this location shot, showing the colourful shacks, all colours present are 'happy colours' which helps make this video cheerful.

This shot with the sun behind the actors shining onto their hair and instrument, the choice of white t-shirts make them stand out from the green background.

Authority Zero - Over Season's

I like the beginning of this video as it captures every member of the band in one shot, looks like a fish eye lens has been used here. They are all sitting in an old school american bus which reflects their music.

I like this depth of field shot as the focus is all on the band but the viewer can still distinguish the foreground were a crowd is present. The skateboards, hats and hoods are there to create a sense of rebellion.

The actors facial expressions in this medium shot are not very happy, they look as if they are staring at someone. The majority of them are wearing very dark clothing.

This shot could be easily copied as the focus is on the tattoo which is a symbol of the bands 'crew'.

quick edit of someone's mohawk which is dyed green resembles a stereotypical punk look in this video.

These worm eye shots make this part of the video alternative and very different as you do not see these low angle shots in music video's that often. I like the way peoples feet get in the way of the camera and jump around making the audience feel as if they need to move around to get a clearer shot of the band.

This depth of field shot is great as people slowly fall out of the shot, the lighting is all on one side of their faces, making it easier produce a strong definition of the characters faces.

Bloc Party - Banquet

I have chosen to analyse this video as it is a band based video performance all in black and white, making the use of lighting the key to this music video. The up beat tempo of the song is definitely reflected in the quick edits of the video, with cropping and zooming in to shadow the song's beat.

This medium shot (left) and close up shot (below) both have a coloured circles based strongly in the middle of the clip, this emphasis what is inside of the colour. There are roughly 10 of these shots at the start of the video all shots synchronous to the beat of the song. This allows the viewer to get a quick look of the band/artists/actors before they play their instruments etc. I like the simplicity of this outcome.

This extreme close up shot looks great in black and white as the whole face covers up the screen, but due to the shadow the viewer can only make up half of the singers face.

I like this shot as it illustrates the rule of thirds, over half of the shot is complete darkness but the audience only focus on a third of the screen (actors face).

Fast edits of extreme close up shot's of random body parts works very well in this shot as the arm has been lit up by a spotlight, taking all of out attention towards the person's arm/tattoo.

This silhouette shot of the lead singer is great, I love the way a back light has been used to creates the man's features, hair, ears, shoulders etc.
