Genre's of music to choose from
It is very hard to say exactly what is the common structre for music video's but I have descrided a vaque brief of what I think is usually demonstrated.
What I think is normally seen in music video's:
The lyrics and tempo of songs is normally reflected in the music video's, with slow sad songs usually being dark colours, lots of close up's and the artist would porbably be in a more sophisticated outfit while happy high tempo songs normally include bright colours maybe with a narrative and not always following the lyrics.
Pop: video's are usually upbeat, colourful and fast paced this appeals to a young audience. setting/location - bright lights very colourful. Camera pans and zooms to capture emotion and movement of the artists. Close up's. band/artist usually lip sync the song in some way or another. Dance sequences are common. different costumes - stylish.
Indie: Mixture of narrative and performance, sometimes only main artist/vocalist or whole band. The colour of the video usually changes due to the lyrics could become black and white, bright or dark. Special effects are fairly frequent. Band normally wearing casual clothing. The editing is quite fast paced depending on the music.
Rock/Metal: Setting and location is often mysterious, scary and very dark. Artists are seen in dark clothing with multiple piecing and makeup to help create the stereotypical Rock/Metal look. sometimes the narrative links with the lyrics and dark tone of the song. wide shots of the band. special effects are sometimes used. Editing is fast which reflects the fast, hard and loud music.
Hip Hop: setting and scenes usually contain a massive party and attractive woman with expensive cars and gadgets around them. Colours of the video usually reflect things like jewellery. Alcohol and people dancing are usually seen. close ups are used to illustrate artist singing the words and jewellery. Wide and long shots are used so the audience can see expensive things in the scene.
This is just my quick overview of a few genre's of music, I am going to start looking at one or two specific genre's/types of music in more detail which will help me choose a song to create a music video to.

Chosen Brief
After thoughts and discussions with my peers and teacher, I have decided to go ahead with Brief 1 as I feel excited and most comfortable with this brief as I love how people produce different, interesting and peculiar music video's.
I am now going to start the research side of the coursework consisting of analysing past and present music video's, identifying the target audience and creating a questionnaire to help produce a high quality final product.
